Vulnerability and Human Rights: Which Compatibility?

Abstract By embracing the ontological view of vulnerability and stressing its social basis, paper aims to clarify role within human rights paradigm. Vulnerability is conceived by author as a heuristic notion, which works pillar for general approach some crucial challenges dignity. Both this notion these are regarded in hallmarks In order ground view, coherence between “vulnerability turn” rationale relies on four-steps argument dealing with: (i) denial necessary mismatch principle autonomy; (ii) appreciation relation conceptualization; (iii) complementarity vulnerability, equality; (iv) understanding “vehicle empathy” not necessarily involving paternalist trends therefore conflict with empowerment purposes rights. The relevance paradigm defended basic rights, i.e. means prevent or fight against those threats that seriously affect needs.
